Sampler Café is a diverse community of beat smiths, sample sculptors, pad smashers and musical misfits that work together to promote unity through the craft of music and to share beat culture with the masses. From hosting open jam sessions, engaging the community through educational workshops, welcoming guest educators and performers, or creating sample heavy electronic music live as a team, Sampler Café’s approach is focused on opening up the portal of accessibility for newcomers and veterans alike to shape a space to exchange knowledge and new ideas in the art of the beat.
The Dying Light Collective is an Edmonton based community workshop aiming to help local people expand their creative abilities. The DLC seeks to connect like-minded people gathering to create, collaborate and above all else learn and teach each other. The DLC seeks no particular baseline talent, nor do they discriminate against experience. Those who think they know nothing are welcomed with open arms, as DLC believes that everyone has something to share with the group.
The Edmonton chapter of Ladies Learning Code offers hands-on, project-based learning experiences that are designed to give beginners the skills and confidence they need to become digital creators. Their workshops and educational events are open to adults of all ages. Workshops cover everything from introductory HTML & CSS, to WordPress, Python, Ruby, web design and more.
CypherWild YEG is a weekly gathering where communities come together to have a good time celebrating hip hop in Edmonton. The events feature DJ’s, mc’s, bboys and bgirls, djing and live grafitti making. Cypher Wild is a free, all ages event that welcomes all styles –and you don’t need to be a dancer or get on the mic to attend! All are welcome. Cypher Wild is held every Thursday (as long as the weather is nice) from 6-9pm in Churchill Square.
BetaCityYEG is a regular meetup connecting public employees, citizens, and members of Edmonton’s tech/data community in order to address the city and region’s pressing issues. The group meets monthly at the Startup Edmonton Space for a casual Wednesday meetup (the 4th Wednesday of the month). BetaCityYEG is not officially affiliated with the City of Edmonton, but employees of the city, as well as the province and nonprofits, present issues their organizations are grappling with to the BetaCityYEG group for discussion.
